Flying over Greenland - Fall 2009
Flying back from Europe to Chicago,. If the sky is not cloudy, you may have a chance to see the coastline of Greenland, its fjords, glaciers and observe how these glaciers are linked to the ice cap. When you fly over the ice cap, everything is white. All these photos were taken at an altitude of 12,000 feet (`4000 meters).

Google Earth view of the area shown in the first image.
Under the wing you can see several oulet glaciers reaching into the open waters
Zoom on outlet glaciers reaching into open waters, note the U shaped perched valley on the right. These glaciers are connected to the ice cap.
Adjusted colors to enhance the contrast between the outlet glaciers and the mountains. On the far left, the ice cap.
Glacier deformation. Note the abundant crevasses.
